Aquatic environments are unforgiving. A decision made early in the design process — the wrong substrate, an undersized life support system, a viewing panel specified without understanding long-term acrylic behaviour under sustained load — can take months or years to surface as a problem. By the time it does, the contractor has moved on, the warranty has expired, and the client is left with something that should have been extraordinary and isn’t.

The Value of an Independent Eye

There is a particular kind of clarity that comes from someone who has no stake in the outcome being what you want to hear. Reefscape’s consultation engagements are paid, independent and honest. We will tell you what is wrong, why it is wrong, and what it will take to put it right — whether that is a straightforward adjustment or a more fundamental intervention.

We consult at any stage. Before a design is committed to. During construction, when something doesn’t look right. After opening, when the environment isn’t performing as it should. The earlier the engagement, the more options remain available — but we have never found a project too far gone to be worth understanding properly.

What We Consult On

Concept and design review. An independent assessment of a proposed aquatic environment before construction begins — identifying biological design risks, specification gaps and engineering concerns before they become irreversible.

Construction stage review. On-site or remote assessment of a project in progress — where contractor decisions are deviating from intent, or where the build is creating problems the design didn’t anticipate.

System performance assessment. Diagnosis of an aquatic environment that isn’t performing — water quality, life support efficiency, biological system health, livestock welfare, viewing clarity. Finding the root cause rather than treating the symptom.

Post-opening recovery. Assessment of an environment that has declined since opening — identifying what went wrong, what can be recovered, and what the path forward looks like.

Independent specification review. A second opinion on engineering documentation, life support specifications or contractor proposals before a commitment is made.

Aquatic projects don’t fail in convenient locations. Reefscape consults globally — desktop reviews conducted remotely, site visits scoped as part of the engagement wherever the project is located. Distance is not a constraint. The quality of the assessment doesn’t change because the project is in the Middle East, Southeast Asia or anywhere else.
